Our story
Xavier College was established in 1995 as a Catholic co-educational school in the tradition of the Salesians, the religious order founded by St John Bosco, which has worked in education and youth ministry for more than 150 years. Following the Salesian Charter for Schools in Australia, the college describes itself as a home that welcomes, a parish that evangelises, a school that prepares for life and a playground where friends meet. Its values are summed up in the Hebrew word RUAH (‘Spirit of God’): Respect, Understanding, Affection and Humour.
Xavier now has three campuses about 50 kilometres north of Adelaide: Gawler Belt for Years 7 to 12, on a 17-hectare site; Two Wells for Reception to Year 10, growing to Year 12 by 2027; and Evanston for Reception to Year 6, which joined the college when St Brigid’s Catholic School amalgamated with Xavier in January 2023. It had 2,615 students in 2025 and is part of Catholic Education SA.
