Our story
Tyndale Christian School opened in 1983 as Para Community Christian School, started by Christian parents who wanted their children taught in a setting that supported their family’s faith. It began with 137 students from Reception to Year 7 and ten staff; while its land was bought and transportable classrooms were ordered, the first classes met in an old house on the property of Salisbury Baptist Church. From 1984 it was renamed after William Tyndale, an early translator of the Bible into English, after the board read his story, God’s Outlaw.
The founding principal, Roy Magor, led the school from 1982 to 1999, and by 1987 it ran from Reception to Year 12. In 2003 it bought the former University of South Australia Salisbury campus, and the senior school moved there in 2004. Tyndale took over the Murraylands Christian College campuses at Strathalbyn and Murray Bridge in 2015, and it is now part of the Tyndale Group of Christian Schools; the Salisbury East school has about 1,500 students.
