Our story
Catholic schooling in Glenelg began in June 1869, the day after the district’s first Catholic church opened on the corner of Bath and Moseley Streets, when the newly formed Sisters of St Joseph started teaching children in the church. Mary MacKillop’s letters show she visited the school several times.
In 1894 the church and school moved to a larger building on Chapel and High Streets, now St Mary’s Hall. The Josephites taught until 1902, and in 1903 Dominican Sisters arrived from Cabra and set up the Holy Rosary Convent, taking over the school that became St Mary’s Memorial.
