St John’s Grammar School was founded in 1958 at Belair in the Adelaide Hills. Its Junior School sits beside Belair National Park and the Belair railway station.
In 1998 the school opened its Secondary School on the site of the former Retreat House and St Barnabas Theological College, and an Early Learning Centre now sits opposite the Junior School, giving three campuses in all. Its houses are named after pioneers of the Belair area, and the school has traditionally put a strong emphasis on music, winning numerous awards. Students start choosing elective courses from Year 8. Today St John’s is an Anglican, co-educational day school from early learning to Year 12, with about 1,009 students (2025).
