Our story
St George College was established in 1983 as the first Orthodox college in South Australia, starting with 31 students in Years 1 to 3. It grew out of the Greek Orthodox Community and Parish of Saint George, Thebarton and Western Suburbs, and it still keeps close ties with that community under an independent board of governors.
The college’s motto, ‘Forever Excelling’, is written in Greek, and its logo crosses a sprig of wattle with an olive branch to show Australian and Greek cultures meeting. Today St George is a co-educational school from the early learning centre to Year 12 on two campuses on Rose Street, Mile End. It teaches the Orthodox faith and takes students of every background.
