Scotch College grew out of Kyre College, a boys’ school that David Henry Hollidge founded at Malvern in 1902. After years of fundraising for a Presbyterian boys’ school, led by the Rev. John Seymour, Kyre became Scotch College and opened under that name in 1919. In 1920 it moved to Torrens Park, the former estate of Sir Robert Richard Torrens, and it was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1922.
Scotch became co-educational in 1972, and when the Presbyterian Church joined the Uniting Church in 1977 its affiliation changed too. A junior campus at Mitcham, centred on Conquest House, now sits beside the main campus around Torrens Park House. Today it is a Uniting Church co-ed day and boarding school from Reception to Year 12, with about 1,213 students (2025) and a small farm on campus.
