Prince Alfred College
Where it sits among Adelaide schools

Prince Alfred College grew out of a Wesleyan Methodist resolve in 1867 to create a school “for the education of our sons”. Land was bought at Kent Town, and Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, laid the foundation stone on 5 November 1867 during his Australian tour, which gave the school its name.
Its annual cricket match against St Peter’s College has run since 1878. In the 1970s the Prince Alfred College Foundation was set up and funded an outdoor campus at Scotts Creek near Mannum, and an Early Learning Centre followed in 1999. When the Methodist Church joined the Uniting Church in 1977, the college’s affiliation moved with it. Today PAC is a Uniting Church boys’ day and boarding school from Reception to Year 12 on Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town, with about 1,127 students (2025).
