Pembroke School
Where it sits among Adelaide schools
Our story
Pembroke was formed in January 1974 by bringing together two neighbouring single-sex schools in Kensington Park. Girton Girls’ School dated from 1915, and King’s College, a boys’ school, was founded in 1923 as a joint venture of the Congregational Church and the Baptist Union of South Australia.
Both names live on in the campuses: the junior and senior schools are on the Girton campus, which includes the heritage-listed Angove House, and the middle school is on the King’s campus. A visual arts centre and auditorium opened in 2009. Today Pembroke is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational day and boarding school from the early years to Year 12, with about 1,672 students (2025), offering SACE and the IB Diploma.
