Our story
Mount Carmel College traces its roots to 1868, when the Sisters of St Joseph, led by Mary MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods, opened schools at Port Adelaide and Pennington. The Marist Brothers opened a boys’ school in the district in 1897, and the girls’ secondary school took the Mount Carmel name in 1940.
The school moved to its Rosewater site in 1967 and became co-educational as Mount Carmel College in 1983. A trade training centre opened in 2014 and was renamed Western Technical College in 2021; Year 7 began in 2019, and in 2022 the college joined with the parish primary school. Its motto is ‘Caritas et Dignitas’.
