Our story
Immanuel Primary School opened in 1970 as the first Lutheran primary school in Adelaide’s western suburbs. It started on the Immanuel College site at Novar Gardens under its founding principal, Garry Matuschka, with 76 students in a single weatherboard classroom, and its first permanent building opened in 1973.
The campus has grown in stages since: the two-storey ‘Ship of Learning’ with its music suite in 1995, an auditorium opened in 2001, new classrooms and play spaces in the late 2010s, and the first stage of a new early learning centre in 2023. Work on the ASPIRE building began in 2025. Today it is a co-educational Lutheran school from early learning to Year 6, on the same Novar Gardens site as Immanuel College and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
