Our story
Immanuel College began in 1895, when Pastor Leidig set up a Lutheran school at Point Pass, near Eudunda in the Mid North. After he retired in 1923 the Lutheran Church Synod took over the school and moved it to North Adelaide. During the Second World War the Air Force needed those buildings and gave the school ten days to leave, so it moved to Walkerville, where it stayed until 1956.
Land at Novar Gardens, bought from the Morphett family of Cummins House in 1950, became the college’s permanent home in 1957. The Century Theatre opened for the centenary in 1995, and the Margaret Ames Centre for the senior school opened in 2015. Today Immanuel is a co-educational Lutheran day and boarding college for Years 7 to 12, part of Lutheran Education SA, NT and WA.
